The main North Terrace campus is located in the heart of central Adelaide and features beautiful, traditional sandstone architecture alongside modern teaching and research facilities. Student accommodation is offered across the street from the main campus, right in the heart of Adelaide. Most upper division Viticulture and Enology courses are taught at the University of Adelaide Waite Campus, which is home to more than 60% of Australia's wine and grape research capability. The Waite Campus is 20 minutes by public transport from the city center. The Waite Research Precinct is Australia's leading research, education and commercialization cluster. It has the largest concentration of expertise in the southern hemisphere in the areas of plant biotechnology, cereal breeding, sustainable agriculture, wine and horticulture and land management. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in campus life activities and can join one or more of the 100+ student clubs.
Students participating in the exchange will be guaranteed accommodation in the brand new student apartment building run by the university’s preferred accommodation provider, urbanest. The complex is across the road from the main campus and offers state of the art facilities for Exchange students. Although students are not required to stay in this accommodation, they are strongly encouraged for the following reasons:
- All Inclusive Rent: Electricity, water, WiFi, and contents insurance.
- Great Central Location: Close to transport and amenities allowing you to explore Adelaide.
- Safe and Secure: 24/7 dedicated onsite team and swipe card access for all rooms.
- The Rooms: Modern furnished rooms with bathroom and air conditioning.
- Conveniences: Guaranteed housing that comes with bed linen and a basic kitchen pack.
Students are responsible for applying for and paying for accommodations directly to the housing provider. The estimated cost of housing at the university’s preferred accommodation is included on the estimated expenses in the Cost section.
Students will have access to a kitchen at urbanest. There are also many food options within walking distance of the accommodations.
The University of Adelaide organizes a variety of activities and events to guide exchange students through the first months in Adelaide and help with university integration. Activities may include:
- Check in and registration
- University services fair
- Campus tours
- Cultural presentations
- Student organization fair and presentations
Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
Adelaide is a relaxed yet cosmopolitan city with a broad multicultural population of about 1.3 million people and with a strong arts and culture scene. Students can easily access cafes, bars and shops that surround the North Terrace University of Adelaide campus, and Glenelg beach is a short tram ride away from the center of the city. Adelaide has been ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world. It is about 20% more affordable than cities on the east coast such as Melbourne and Sydney. Due to its smaller size than these cities and its geographic location it has excellent access to the outback and a number of attractions such as the Flinders Ranges and Kangaroo Island.
