Program Overview

A true voyage-of-a-lifetime to the remote Antarctic Peninsula to study one of the world’s most astonishing environments. Encounter magnificent icebergs and glaciers, wondrous wildlife and snow-covered landscapes. Study the ecology, biology and geology of the region, along with the history of human effects and interactions in the form of global warming, research, treaties, exploration, tourism, education, art, etc. You’ll prepare for the trip in the fall by participating in an on-line course led by specialists from multiple institutions and supplemented by on-campus meetings. The voyage will take place over winter break on a purpose-built polar expedition vessel, with several shore landings by zodiac boats in the company of expert guides. The adventure includes onshore hiking and visits to historic sites and a working research station.
