Quarter Abroad Japan

In a ten-week spring program in Kyoto, participants complete Japanese language studies and a fieldwork course in the humanities, while exploring the city's traditional culture, arts, and surrounding regions through excursions and hands-on workshops.

Quarter Abroad Japan - Travel

The study abroad program includes pre-departure and on-site orientations, requires students to arrange their own travel, provides visa guidance (none required for U.S. citizens), and offers insurance.

Quarter Abroad Japan - Cost

The study abroad program covers lodging, required excursions, a transportation card, a travel guide, and health insurance, but additional costs such as airfare, meals, and personal expenses are not included in the program fees.

Quarter Abroad Japan - On Site

Students in the study abroad program will stay in residence halls near Kyoto Seika University, where they can cook their own meals or purchase inexpensive options on campus, and they will participate in various excursions and cultural activities exploring Japan's rich history and traditions.

Quarter Abroad Japan - Instructor

A UC alumnus, Miri Nakamura holds a B.A. in French literature (UCLA), M.A. in Classical Japanese Literature (Columbia) and Ph.D. in Japanese Literature/Ph.D. Minor in Comparative Literature (Stanford).

Quarter Abroad Japan - Courses

UC Davis Summer Abroad Japan offers students the opportunity to earn units over the summer through immersive coursework, enhanced by local excursions, guest lectures and reflective assignments.
