UC Davis Global Learning Conference

Cultivating Authenticity in an Interconnected World

Saturday, April 5, 2025

The UC Davis Global Learning Conference strives to offer a balanced and informative conference that engages students with their global learning experiences in a way that is both reflective and forward thinking.

Global learning at UC Davis is a combination of local, regional, national, and international experiences through which students develop key skills, knowledge, and networks that help them build global awareness, engage with diverse cultures and experiences, and pursue collaborative and equitable global action. Learn more about the Global Learning Outcomes framework. Please remember that global learning is not limited to study abroad experience; our student attendees encompass a diverse range of global learning experiences.

The proposal selection committee will include sessions spanning a variety of topics. We are looking for session proposals with a global focus on career preparation or identity exploration. Sessions may include helping students reflect on their experiences with global learning as related to their personal identities, academic experiences, and career interests, connect global learning with career development, and focus on awareness and the solving of global challenges. Priority will be given to interactive session proposals.

Conference Theme Statement

Cultivating Authenticity in an Interconnected World

With this theme, we are looking for presenters who can give students tools and ideas for continuing to discover who they are and what they want their goals to be. We are also looking for sessions that help them think about how they want to show up as their authentic selves in diverse, interconnected spaces, and how they can cultivate authenticity in the global (work)places that they are in or will join after graduation.

Preferred Session Category

Utilizing the options below, please indicate one session category that best fits your proposal session. We recognize that proposals may integrate more than one session category, but we ask that you select the one that most resonates with your session.

Identity Exploration

Sessions focused on identity exploration may prompt students to reflect on not only their own identities, but also those of people they will encounter in an increasingly global landscape. Sessions in this category may encourage intercultural curiosity, identity formation, and skills for navigating and working across difference.

Career Preparation

Career preparation sessions may include a focus on identifying the career skills gained from global experiences and ways to continue developing them; incorporating global learning on resumes and in interviews; and preparing for opportunities after graduation. Examples of global experiences may occur in local, regional or international spaces.

The session description will be published in conference materials. Session descriptions may be edited to maintain consistency. (750 characters or less)
For what audience is this session appropriate? Please indicate whether there are any additional target audiences (e.g., first generation students, transfer students, students of color, international students, etc.).
Complete the following statement with key concept(s) or skill(s) students can gain from your session. Limit to 1 - 3 of the most relevant learning objectives. At the end of your session, students will be able to:
Indicate how your session content connects to global learning and the conference theme of Cultivating Authenticity in an Interconnected World. (800 characters or less)
Provide a brief overview of how you will facilitate audience interactions, connection, and engagement (e.g., small group discussions, writing reflections, etc.). We encourage creative and interactive learning tools and formats.
