Sophia Mattingly

Sophia Mattingly is a dedicated lecturer in the School of Education at UC Davis and student teacher supervisor for CSU Sacramento, where she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her roles. She holds a California single subject credential in English, a Ph.D. in Education with a focus on language, literacy, and culture, earned from UC Davis, a Post Baccalaureate degree in Secondary Education from the University of North Carolina, and a B.A. in English from the University of Missouri.
Raised in California, Sophia's educational journey has taken her across various parts of the United States and even abroad, where she spent time living in The Netherlands. Her extensive travels, which include exploring Europe, North Africa, China, Mexico and Canada, have profoundly shaped her worldview. Sophia firmly believes in the transformative power of travel, emphasizing its ability to broaden perspectives, foster cultural understanding and promote a sense of interconnectedness. At UC Davis, Sophia leverages her background as a middle and high school English teacher to guide student internships in TK-12 classrooms. Additionally, she instructs a diverse array of undergraduate courses focusing on child development and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the learning environment.
