Get a Global Start to your UC education through the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP)!

Global Start is an experience unlike anything you will find on campus. Global Start offers a unique opportunity to study in Europe, where courses are enriched by local history and culture, and excursions bring lessons to life. The program helps you develop essential skills like study habits, writing, and financial literacy, while building intercultural awareness and independence. You'll earn UC credits that count toward your degree, and the experience will prepare you for success both at UC and beyond.

As a student in Syracuse, Sicily, you'll be immersed in a vibrant culture that seamlessly blends Italian and Mediterranean traditions. Explore bustling street markets, savor delicious local cuisine, and marvel at the ancient Greek temples of Apollo and Athena. This historic city, a crossroads of civilizations, offers a unique opportunity for cross-cultural learning and unforgettable experiences. After the program is over you return to UC Davis for winter quarter 2026.

Students who enroll in the 2025 Global Start program will receive a $1,500 Provost’s Scholarship.

Before You Go

  • You will attend a pre-departure orientation (in-person and Zoom options) where most of your logistical questions will be answered.
  • You will also receive two tailored intercultural orientations (in-person and Zoom options) led by UC Davis staff, which will help you understand cultural differences and explore your identity.
  • Group travel: convenient group travel from California to your destination arranged.

While You Are Abroad

  • You will take part in a comprehensive on-site orientation.
