UC Davis and UCEAP will support you every step of the way—before you leave, while you are studying abroad in Syracuse and when you return to Davis. You will also have travel insurance and 24/7 emergency help during your time abroad.
As you go through your UC Davis Admissions acceptance packet, you will get access to Aggie 101, an online experience that takes about 1-2 hours to complete. It will help introduce you to the UC Davis community and provide resources to support your academic, personal and social growth, making it easier for you to meet your needs at UC Davis.
Predeparture Orientations for UCEAP Global Start
Before you leave, you will attend three orientations to help you get ready for living abroad and meet your fellow participants. In your Pre-departure Orientation, you will learn about local services, health care, class registration and money. You will also get tips on transportation, handling emergencies and using your phone and the Internet. In the next two Intercultural Orientations, you will explore your own identity, values and learn how to understand cultural differences.
Reentry Workshop
A reentry workshop will also be offered when you return from abroad. By attending the reentry workshop, you will be able to recognize that different reactions to reentry, and the different timing of those reactions, are normal and valid. You will be able to define transferable skills and why they are important in the workplace as well as utilize different storytelling frameworks to process and share your experience abroad.
Winter Orientation at UC Davis & Campus Housing
At your UC Davis winter orientation, you will have the chance to meet new people and connect with students new to campus like you. You will also learn how to get around campus and find important resources. The orientation will help you figure out how to balance your classes with all the activities you can get involved in on campus.
Housing on campus is already reserved for you, so you will have a place in student housing when you return to Davis in the winter. You will also be living near other students from your Global Start group, making it easier to meet up at dining or study centers and adjust to campus life.
Accommodation for Disabilities
For students with disabilities, studying abroad is possible with careful planning. Work with the UC Davis Disability Center and the Global Learning Hub to make sure the program suits your needs. After applying, your UCEAP program specialist will help coordinate your accommodations. If your needs can’t be met, they will help you find another program. You will have support every step of the way.
