Global Aggies Blog: From Local Roots to Global Goals—Advancing Sustainability Through Agrivoltaics

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Kelly Mae Heroux, a third-year grad student in Soils and Biogeochemistry, received a Global Grad Grant to tackle food insecurity through agrivoltaics and community service. Her work bridges local action with global goals, fostering sustainable solutions and collaboration in Yolo County.

UC Davis Summer Abroad Programs—Deadline March 20

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​There is still time to enroll in a UC Davis Summer or Quarter Abroad program for 2025. Programs fill on a first-completed, first-reserved basis. Financial aid applies and scholarships are available. To apply, create a Global Learning Profile.

New Grant Available—Latinx Health Internship in Oaxaca

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​A new $40,000 grant is available for the Quarter Abroad Latinx Health Internship in Oaxaca program. The first 15 students who enroll will receive $2,000 to help cover their program fees. Additional grant funding based on financial need is also available. A short application is required to apply for additional grant funding. Apply by March 27. Quarter Abroad enrollment is open through April 10.

New Grant Available—Building Sustainable Water Treatment Systems

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​A new $60,000 grant is available for the Summer Abroad Building Sustainable Water Treatment Systems program in Guadalajara, Mexico. All students who enroll will receive up to $4,000 toward their Accommodations and Services Abroad Fee, as well as their out-of-pocket expenses. No application required.

University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP)

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic year. Final deadlines for Summer, Fall, and Academic Year programs are approaching, and vary by program. Programs provide UC credit and financial aid, and options include immersion, special focus areas, language and culture studies, and internships. Explore available programs today.

UCEAP Exploring Your Identity Abroad Workshops

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This series is a collaborative effort between all the University of California campuses and UCEAP to provide identity-based study abroad workshops, panels and information sessions for students across the UC system. Upcoming workshops include “Global Journeys, Personal Stories: Exploring your Heritage through Study Abroad” (April 17) and “Women Abroad” (April 29).

UC Davis Widening Circles Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​June 23–August 22. This fully-funded online program pairs an online curriculum focused on ethical global engagement with a social impact internship, volunteer opportunity, research or project—either abroad or at home. Undergraduate students apply here. Graduate students apply through the Global Grad Grant. Deadline: March 16.

UC Davis Global Impact Fellows Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Global Impact Fellows Program is a one-year commitment to leading or assisting a student-led initiative that addresses a global+local issue where students can hone project management, leadership and specific technical skills in an environment where they have real autonomy. Info Session: April 10. Apply. Deadline: April 27.

Global Affairs UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Internship

This internship provides an opportunity during spring quarter 2025 for UC Davis undergraduate students to actively contribute to campus engagement on the SDGs, gaining knowledge of organizational strategy, campus and external coordination, and communications and analytical skills to support this global agenda. Deadline: March 14.

UC Center Sacramento

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Spend the fall 2025 term studying and interning in and around the California State Capitol. Gain academic credit, public policy research and internship experience. Apply. Priority Deadline: March 20.

Sacramento Valley College Corps

​​​​​​​​​​​​Sacramento Valley College Corps is a program dedicated to engaging college students in meaningful service to build leadership and civic responsibility. Fellows serve 450 hours in an area of K-12 Education, Food Insecurity or Climate Action over the academic year. Apply. Deadline: April 4.

Amrita Live-In-Labs

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Join this multidisciplinary experiential learning program that facilitates the research, development and deployment of sustainable solutions for current challenges faced by rural communities in India. Open to undergraduate and master's students. Tuition fees are waived, and accommodations and food are reduced for UC Davis students. Contact Chelsey Hawes for more information.

Competitions, Challenges, and Funding

Peter and Marion London Global Learning Innovation Award

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This award supports an annual project led by one or more UC Davis students who will partner with Nepali and/or Tibetan students on a project with a strong public benefit related to sustainable development for disadvantaged communities. Award amount up to $4,500. Deadline: April 11.

U.S.–Japan Bridging Foundation Scholarships for Study Abroad

The U.S.-Japan Bridging Foundation offers scholarships ($2,500 for a semester program and $4,500 for a year-length program) for U.S. citizens to study in Japan in Fall 2025, Spring 2026 or the 2025-26 academic year. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Deadline: March 15.

Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship for Study Abroad

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are $1,000 awards designed to help support undergraduates as they study abroad. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher, participating in a study abroad program May 1, 2025–June 30, 2026. Apply. Deadline: March 15.

Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Chicana Latina Foundation awards $1,500 merit-based scholarships to Latina college students. Applicants must be women of Chicana/Latina heritage, have lived in an eligible Northern California county for two years, be enrolled full-time and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater. Apply. Deadline: March 31.

Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship for Public Service

Voyager Scholarships gives college students who plan to pursue a career in public service up to $50,000 in financial aid to alleviate the burden of college debt, meaningful travel experiences to expand their horizons and a network of mentors and leaders to support them. Apply. Deadline: April 1.

Freeman–ASIA Scholarship

This award supports undergraduate students with financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, demonstrate financial need through FAFSA, have a minimum 2.8 GPA, and have little or no previous experience in the study abroad country. Apply. Deadline: April 1.

Experiential Learning Award

This award supports undergraduate students participating in unpaid experiential learning (internships, research, community service, etc.). Funding will be approximately $4,500. Students are required to participate in a weekly professional development seminar during both summer sessions. Apply. Deadline: April 3.

APRU Global Health Virtual Case Competition

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Teams of three–six students will receive a challenge relating to a pressing global health problem and have up to 12 weeks to propose a solution. The winning team will be announced at the 2025 APRU Global Health Conference and receive a $1,000 prize. Teams must be registered by April 19.

Story Circles for Community Connection

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​March 18, 5–7 p.m., International House Davis. This community listening and sharing event provides a space to build empathy and connection by coming together to tell our stories and learn from one another. This event is open to everyone. UC Davis Global Learning Conference

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​April 5, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., International Center. This conference provides learning opportunities to articulate and market your global perspective/experience, network, develop your resume and cover letter, learn from seasoned professionals in various fields, connect with peers, and explore resources and opportunities for your future. Register. Deadline: March 19.

Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​April 25–26. Over 800 UC Davis undergraduates in all academic fields will present their research, which has been conducted under the supervision and mentorship of UC Davis faculty. The event is free and open to the public.
