Courses (14 units)

  • English (ENL) 177. Harry Potter in Context (4 units)
  • English (ENL) 177 - Draft Syllabus (PDF)
This course explores how, Harry Potter, one of the most beloved young adult series in the world was shaped by medieval British literature, Shakespeare’s plays, gothic fiction, and even the architecture of Oxford. We will read Harry Potter alongside older English classics, and visit sites of inspiration and fandom to consider the phenomenon of Harry Potter within the unique cultural context that London provides.
  • English (ENL) 163. British Life and Culture (4 units)
  • English (ENL) 163 - Draft Syllabus (PDF)
Taught by a local London faculty member, this course aims at facilitating student orientation by helping students to connect their experience in London within the broader context of British society. The course will enable individuals to develop an understanding of British society as an integrated whole which is more than the sum of its parts. This in turn should encourage critical discussion and reflection about the differences between US, British, and European cultures, and the collective relationship that individuals have with their own societies. Syllabus
  • English (ENL) 192. Internship (6 units, Pass/No Pass)
