For 2500 years, Rome has been a center of geo-political, intellectual, religious, and artistic influence that has shaped Western culture, and in this program, Rome is your classroom. Each day will be spent exploring the layers of history in Rome’s monuments, museums, churches, and in its piazzas, parks, markets and neighborhoods. Weekly daytrips will take us beyond Rome: to medieval hill towns with deep Etruscan roots; Ostia: the port city of ancient Rome; Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance; and the lush gardens and bubbling fountains of Villa d’Este in Tivoli. On a two-night excursion to visit Naples and Sorrento, we will also explore ancient Pompeii. Through its history, art, cuisines and traditions, you will gain a deeper understanding of the Italy’s rich, diverse cultural tapestry. Taught in English. Full program details.
