Global Research Opportunities
Check out our new resource for low or no-cost research opportunities offered by institutions abroad. These can be an affordable way to engage in international research for both undergraduate and graduate students. Many of these programs charge no program fee to participate, and others offer scholarships to offset some of these expenses.
Universitas 21 (U21) Sustainable Micro-Internships
The U21 Sustainable Micro-Internships Program is a free, virtual, two-week project-based internship for undergrad and grad students. Work with students from across the globe, sharing knowledge and expertise while providing solutions to a challenge related to one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Apply. Deadline: November 13.
UC Davis Global Learning Conference – Showcase Opportunity
The Global Learning Hub will host the Global Learning Conference on Saturday, April 5, 2025. During the conference, individual students’ global learning experiences will be highlighted through posters to showcase the variety of global learning opportunities available at UC Davis. DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) Scholars
The RISE program offers undergraduates in the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth sciences and physics the opportunity to complete a funded summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. Receive a monthly stipend for three months to help cover living expenses. Apply. Deadline: November 30.
Latinxs & the Environment (L&E) Ambassador Program
The L&E Ambassador Program is an opportunity for students across the UC system to play a crucial role in representing their institution’s commitment to sustainability and advancing cutting-edge environmental research. L&E Ambassadors engage in impactful research, collaborate with like-minded peers and advocate for sustainable practices both on and off campus. Apply. Deadline: November 15.
Technical University of Munich (TUM) Practical Research Experience Program (PREP) Summer Research Internship
Together with TUM scientists, TUM PREP students work in small research teams on a research project. The program includes accommodations support, a €1,000 scholarship, an orientation and framework program, TUM buddies program and orientation. Deadline: November 24.
Douglass-O'Connell Global Internship
On this eight-week summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland, participants will expand their understanding of Irish history and culture while gaining work experience. Intern with a host company and complete a six-credit internship seminar. Participants will receive a fellowship award that covers the full program cost, airfare and a living stipend. Apply. Deadline: November 29.
Humboldt Internship Program in Berlin
This program offers research opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. Students apply for a specific project in biology, chemistry, social sciences, cultural studies, physics, entrepreneurship and more. Requirements include a resume, cover letter and a letter of recommendation. Scholarships are available to cover the small program fee. Apply. Deadline: December 20.

Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program
CLS is a fully funded 8-10-week summer overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. Eligible languages: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish and Urdu. Apply. Deadline: November 19.
Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Spark—Virtual Opportunity
CLS Spark is a virtual program for U.S. undergraduate citizens to learn Arabic, Chinese or Russian through online classes and activities facilitated by native speakers at a host institution abroad. Scholars will also receive an official language proficiency designation via ACTFL OPI testing. Apply. Deadline: November 19.
Blakemore Freeman Fellowships
This fellowship provides a stipend, tuition and travel expenses for intensive language study of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Khmer or Burmese in approved language programs in East or Southeast Asia. By the start of the grant, applicants should have received a bachelor’s degree and have the equivalent of three years of language study. Deadline: December 30.

Donald A. Strauss Scholarship (Info Session)
November 18, 12:00–1:00 p.m., virtual. The Strauss Scholarship provides $15,000 to students at select California colleges and universities to implement sustainable year-length public service projects throughout the world. UC Davis Widening Circles and Global Grad Grants (Info Session)
November 21, 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., virtual. Learn about the Widening Circles program, a fully-funded program that provides UC Davis students the opportunity to engage in an online curriculum focused on ethical global engagement and social change. At this info session, students will learn about the program and the funding mechanisms for participation. Register.
David L. Boren Scholarship (Info Session)
November 21, 12:00–1:00 p.m., virtual. Learn about the David L. Boren Scholarship, which provides students up to $25,000 to study abroad in countries outside Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Western Europe and incorporates intensive language study of less commonly taught languages. Register.
