This intensive program combines classroom instruction, field visits, and a hands-on project, focusing on the key economic development issues South Africa faces, including poverty, inequality, unemployment, and sustainable development. Students will engage with local experts, policymakers, and community leaders to better understand the intersection of economic theory and real-world development strategies. Topics addressed could include trade, international investment, financial crises, urban development, infrastructure, and education as they contribute to economic growth. Each student will independently research a specific issue related to economic development in South Africa, using diverse sources such as reports, articles, and interviews with local stakeholders. The course is designed to promote critical thinking, practical application, and social responsibility, grounded in the unique economic environment of Cape Town. Full program details.
