Position Title
UCEAP Student Assistant
Hi everyone! My name is Rosa Preciado, and I am a second-year Political Science in Public
Service student here at UC Davis. I was born and raised in San Francisco, California, where I grew up around various different types of communities and identities. Because San Francisco is a very touristy area, I was introduced to many opportunities as a first-generation child, coming from Mexican Immigrant parents. As the oldest child, I was motivated to pursue my own opportunities. This allowed me to stay involved with what I called a second home.
I became fond of a Bay Area organization under the name of “City Surf Project”. I was first introduced to them in my first year of High School, where I slowly built my love for surf life and became fond of the whole West Coast. When I got my acceptance letter to UC Davis, alongside came an email for an invitation to apply to the “Global Start Program” in Syracuse, Sicily for Fall of 2025. I was immediately interested and told a former surf mate about it. They immediately encouraged me to apply as soon as applications opened, and I took the chance to review everything carefully.
After my trip abroad, I took the time to reflect on what I love, ultimately coming to the decision of becoming more involved with both City Surf Project and the Global Learning Hub. On a personal level, I have worked with City Surf Project for years now, gaining experience from being a Surf Instructor with kids all throughout the Bay Area to becoming a Board Member in April of 2026. On an academic level, I was introduced to a First-year seminar with Jess and Fred, (Both current Global Learning Hub team members), impacting me to learn more about how to get involved with the Global Learning Hub. I am not currently a member of the UCEAP Team, where I will be helping other students thrive with international experience while exposing themselves to multicultural experiences the way I once did with Global Start.
