Alakananda (Alice) Roy

Hello! My name is Alice Roy, and I am a third-year Materials Engineering student at UC Davis. I was born in India and raised in the Bay Area, where I grew up surrounded by innovation and a strong sense of curiosity that eventually drew me toward engineering. 

This past summer, I had the opportunity to complete a summer internship in Barcelona with the ICN2 Institute (Catalan Institute of Nanotechnology and Nanoscience). During this program, I worked alongside researchers exploring cutting-edge developments in nanotechnology and nanoscience, immersing myself in both the scientific community and the vibrant culture of Barcelona. This experience was truly life-changing in every aspect. It broadened my understanding of materials engineering on a global scale, pushed me outside my comfort zone, and inspired me to encourage other students to pursue international opportunities that align with their academic and personal goals.
