Bio

My name is Stephanie Jaqueline Zarate (she/her/ella), and I am a Global Advising & Outreach Coordinator at the Global Learning Hub. Some of my main global learning experiences growing up were spending summers helping my grandparents with their hardware store in Jalisco, Mexico. Practicing Spanish, interacting with customers who stopped by the store, and spending time with my extended family made me appreciate my roots and cultural identity.

As an undergraduate student, I participated in the Perspective of Global Management program at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland as well as the Politics of Global Inequality program in Geneva, Switzerland. I had an opportunity to see new terrains, natural wonders, museums and landmarks, but most importantly, learned a lot about myself and how interconnected we all are to others.

I also got involved on campus as a student assistant within the Center for African Diaspora Student Success and UC Davis Center for Regional Change. Working in these settings motivated me to pursue a career in the college environment.

After graduation, I joined the Student Services team within UC Davis Mathematics to support the graduate and undergraduate programs while pursuing my M.A. in Higher Education leadership and Policy Studies from CSU Sacramento. I later went on to work as the Undergraduate Advisor at UC Davis Health, where I provided students with information regarding the Public Health Sciences minor program and careers in Public Health.

Students come to campus with diverse identities and beliefs as well as a unique set of skills, talents, and desires. You all have the power, autonomy, and agency to assert your voices and cultivate positive change! I look forward to working with you all and helping you learn more about global opportunities and experiences of your interest.
