Study Abroad Photo Contest Winners Announced!

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Congratulations to students Joshua Hoye ’23, international relations major, and Esther Perez Paz ’23, animal science major, on winning this year’s UC Davis Study Abroad Photo Contest! This year, we had over 300 photo submissions and over 1000 voters. Winners were selected for two categories: Places and People. See the winning photos.

Competitions, Challenges, and Funding

James C. Gaither Junior Fellows

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The fellowship provides $39,500/year, with benefits, to work for one post-graduate year as a junior researcher at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. and have significant research experience. Deadline: December 19.

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships

This fellowship provides a stipend, tuition and travel expenses for intensive language study of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Khmer or Burmese in approved language programs in East or Southeast Asia. By the start of the grant, applicants should have received a bachelor’s degree and have the equivalent of three years of language study. Deadline: December 30.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This fellowship funds $30,000 towards a public service graduate degree along with conference attendance and a Washington D.C. internship. Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled full-time in their junior year, with an interest in pursuing careers as public service leaders. Deadline: January 9.

Pitzer Family Foundation Global Challenge Internship Grants–Up to $10,000

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Pitzer Family Foundation Global Challenge Internship Grants are now open for 2023. Four generous grants—of up to $10,000 per grantee—will be given to eligible UC Davis students who will participate in select UC Davis global internship programs. Deadline: January 16.

Donald A. Strauss Scholarship

Scholarships of $15,000 are available to sophomore and junior level students of any citizenship status with a desire to “make a difference” in local, national or international communities. Recipients implement a sustainable public service project anywhere in the world. Deadline: February 1.

Udall Undergraduate Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This scholarship funds $7,000 and attendance at the Udall Scholars Leadership Conference for second or third-year students who are U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents planning careers to benefit the environment or Native American/American Indian tribes. Tribal candidates must be Native American/American Indian. Deadline: February 13.

UC Davis Experiential and Intercultural Learning

DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) Scholars

The RISE program offers undergraduates in the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth sciences and physics the opportunity to complete a funded summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. Apply. Deadline: December 15.

Call for 2023 Graduate Public Scholars

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The 2023 Public Scholars program introduces graduate students to the intellectual and practical aspects of identifying, addressing and collaborating with members of the public through their scholarship. Selected applicants will receive a $4,000 stipend paid over two quarters with the possibility of receiving academic credits. Deadline: December 16.

UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Internship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Global Affairs SDGs Internship provides an opportunity for UC Davis undergraduate students to actively contribute to campus engagement on the SDGs, gaining knowledge of organizational strategy, campus and external coordination, and communications and analytical skills to support this global agenda. Now accepting applications for winter quarter. Deadline: January 6.

Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunities Available in Areas of Equality and Justice

The University of Denver’s Interdisciplinary Research Institute for the Study of Equality has open postdoctoral fellow opportunities in the areas of racial justice and global change; educational justice in metropolitan school districts; institutional justice and the criminal justice system. Deadline: January 13.

Eisenhower Global Scholars

Eisenhower Global Scholars is an opportunity to spend the full 2023-24 academic year of postgraduate study leading to a master's degree in public policy at the University of Oxford or international relations at the IE University in Madrid. All courses are in English. Deadline: March 20.

Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Undergraduate Research, Scholarship & Creative Activities Conference (April 28-29, 2023) is designed to acquaint undergraduate students with the process and academic rigors of presenting research in a scholarly manner and in an affirming environment. Undergraduates in all academic fields are invited to submit abstracts starting January 9.

Council on Foreign Relations Internship Opportunities

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Council on Foreign Relations’ Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program provides training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs through a variety of positions. Interns work alongside staff while gaining valuable experience through exposure to leading foreign policy experts.

United Nations (UN) Millennium Fellowship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The UN Millennium Fellowship is a worldwide leadership development program for undergraduate students. Benefits include: a certificate, networking with global leaders, leadership training and community social change. UC Davis is a UN Millennium Fellowship Campus Hub. Deadline: March 31.

Imagining America (IA) Mail Art Project

This year, IA’s Mail Art Project is inspired by the theme: Rituals of Repair and Renewal. As we peer through the portal of the global pandemic, we invite participants to engage in collective rituals of repair, renewal and release, by transforming and unlearning that which never served us and manifesting new ways of being together.
