University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP)

Enrollment for 2024-25 UCEAP programs is now open. Application open dates and deadlines vary by program. UCEAP programs offer UC credit and financial aid. Program options include immersion, special focus, language and culture, and internships. Find a program.

Study Abroad Photo Contest Update

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Thank you to all students who submitted photos to the 2023 Study Abroad Photo Contest. We received a record number of submissions and are currently in the process of selecting the top 10 finalists. More information will be posted on the contest webpage in mid-November.

Competitions, Challenges, and Funding

UC Davis Ranks 3rd for Large Universities with Students Studying Abroad as Gilman Scholars

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​UC Davis ranks third for large universities with students studying abroad as Gilman Scholars. Read the web story. The Gilman Scholarship will open again in mid-January for applicants who wish to study or intern abroad on programs with start dates from May 1, 2024–April 30, 2025.

UC Davis Library Graduate Student Prize

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The prize celebrates graduate student researchers who use the library to create outstanding, publicly engaged scholarship. Up to three $1,000 prizes will be awarded for an original, unpublished, written work created while the applicant is a graduate student at UC Davis. ApplyDeadline: December 1.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This scholarship fully funds outstanding applicants from countries outside the U.K. to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree (master's or Ph.D.) in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Deadlines: December 5 (U.S. Citizens), January 4 (International Citizens).

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This fellowship provides a stipend, tuition and travel expenses for intensive language study of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Khmer or Burmese in approved language programs in East or Southeast Asia. By the start of the grant, applicants should have received a bachelor’s degree and have the equivalent of three years of language study. Deadline: December 30.

James C. Gaither Junior Fellows

This fellowship provides a $3,916/month salary for 10-12 months, plus a $1,500 relocation allowance to work for one post-graduate year as a junior researcher at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Applicants must be current seniors or recent grads eligible to work in the United States and have significant research experience. Deadline: January 2.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Gilman-McCain Scholarship application is now open for in-person programs or internships that start between February 1 and October 31, 2024. The scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child and spousal dependents of active or activated U.S. military personnel to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs. Deadline: January 4.

Universitas 21 (U21) Sustainable Micro-Internships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The U21 Sustainable Micro-Internships Program is a free, virtual, two-week project-based internship for undergrad and grad students. Work with students from across the globe, sharing knowledge and expertise while providing solutions to a challenge related to one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. ApplyDeadline: November 15.

U.S. Passport Grant Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The U.S. Passport Grant Program covers the cost of one first-time adult U.S. Passport Book. In fall 2023, the program will award 70 passports to UC Davis undergraduate students. Join the Global Learning Hub and Passport Services for this info session to learn more about eligibility requirements, application process, required documents and program timeline. Deadline November 15.

APRU Becoming a Global Learner Leadership Series

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Participate in this free, five-session virtual learning series in January-February 2024, where you will learn about culture, identity and intercultural awareness alongside peers from across the Asia Pacific region. Make connections, engage meaningfully and develop global leadership skills. ApplyDeadline: November 20.

DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) Scholars

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The RISE program offers undergraduates in the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth sciences and physics the opportunity to complete a funded summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. 750 euros/month for three months, health insurance and a stipend for travel. ApplyDeadline: November 30.

Humboldt Internship Program in Berlin—Virtual and In-Person

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This program offers research opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. Students apply for a specific project in biology, chemistry, social sciences, cultural studies, physics, entrepreneurship and more. Requires resume, cover letter and letter of recommendation. Scholarships are available to cover the small program fee. ApplyDeadline: December 10.

U.S. Mission to the United Nations (USUN) Careers and Internships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​November 16, 1 p.m., virtual. Join USUN employees while they share information about internships, fellowships and careers as Foreign and Civil service officers working at the State Department and United Nations. Register.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship—Program Overview Info Session

November 16, 4 p.m., virtual. Learn about this fellowship which funds $30,000 towards a public service graduate degree, participation in the Truman Scholars Leadership Week and in an eight-week Summer Institute in Washington, D.C. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with an interest in pursuing careers as public service leaders. RSVP on ZoomCampus Deadline: January 8.

Global Ambassador Mentorship Program Winter Game Night w/ Hot Chocolate

November 16, 5–6:45 p.m., International Center Lobby. Come enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, play fun games and make connections with fellow students from around the world. Art Jam: Chicanx Print Party

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​November 16, 8–10 p.m., Manetti Shrem Museum. Grab a bite (free food!), watch a dazzling folklorico dance performance by Danzantes del Alma and pull a fresh screenprint with Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer at their paleta pop-up print cart. Chateaubriand Fellowship STEM Program—Info Session

November 17, 8:45 a.m., virtual. This fellowship is available to Ph.D. students from U.S. institutions who wish to conduct part of their doctoral research in France for four to nine months. UC Davis Lights Festival: Shining Light on our Cultures

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​November 18, 3–7 p.m., East Quad. The UC Davis Light Festival is a free campus community event centering on the Asian and Pacific Islander and Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian community. This event will showcase a variety of cultural aspects through food, performing arts and activity booths.

Udall Undergraduate Scholarship—Info Session

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​November 29, 4 p.m. Learn about the Udall Foundation, which awards 50 scholarships annually of up to $7,000 each to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. Info Session RegistrationDeadline: February 13.
