Study Abroad is Back!

The Global Learning Hub, within Global Affairs, is pleased to announce the 2022 lineup of programs for UC Davis Summer Abroad and UC Davis Summer Abroad Internships. Programs include faculty-led study and internship (virtual and in-person) opportunities in various disciplines—from animal and veterinary science to global health, from environment, green tech and sustainability to business and communication. UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) Application Deadlines: January–July, 2022

​​​​​​​UCEAP 2022-23 applications begin closing January 12 for programs taking place at the beginning of summer 2022. Deadlines vary by program, so please visit the deadlines page for details. There is still plenty of time to apply; start today!

UCEAP Global Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​UCEAP will open Global Scholarship applications in late January 2022 for 2022-23 programs. Awards of up to $2,000 will be announced in late March. You could be one of over 500 students selected for an award.

Virtual Global Learning

Program Spotlight: Virtual Internships in Social Impact and Public Health (Worldwide)

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​These eight-week, project-based summer internships can help you enhance your skills using digital tools and accomplish remote-based work. Choose to work 20 or 30 hours a week. Info Session: January 14, 12–1 p.m. Register.

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais Online Summer School on Brazilian Studies

July 2022. This free opportunity gives students from around the world an understanding of key aspects of Brazil from distinct perspectives. Meetings in English will cover the underpinnings of Brazilian politics, history, foreign relations, geography, law, economy and culture. Apply to be nominated by UC Davis. Deadline: January 23.

International House Davis: Language, Culture and Art Classes

January 10–March 19. Join I-House in Davis for in-person and virtual classes. Check the schedule and sign-up for beginning to advanced language conversation sessions in French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese, and Mandarin. Classes are free for I-House members. Join for a one-year $30 student membership.

2022 Mellon Public Scholars Call for Proposals

The Mellon Public Scholars program introduces doctoral and MFA students in the arts, humanities and humanistic social sciences to the intellectual and practical aspects of identifying, addressing and collaborating with members of a public through their scholarship. Deadline: January 14.

Aggies Leading the Way! Undergraduate Leadership Conference

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Registration extended to January 30 for the Undergraduate Leadership Conference on February 12. Join us at the session, Your Story, Your Strengths: Intercultural Skills for Life and Career Success. Focusing on your lived experiences, learn how to name your intercultural skills and discover your own strengths. Register.

Global Learning Conference – Call for Student Posters

Part of the UC Davis Global Learning Conference on Saturday, April 2 will showcase the variety of global learning opportunities available at UC Davis. If you are interested in being showcased on a poster during the Global Learning Conference, please fill out this form by Wednesday, January 19.

Global Ambassador Mentorship Program Mentor Fellows

Mentor fellows are current undergraduate students who assist international students in adjusting to UC Davis and U.S. life. Gain valuable leadership skills, practical experience with intercultural communication, and a deeper understanding of your role in a global community. Eligible for a $500 payment. Apply. Deadline: January 30.

United Nations (UN) Millennium Fellowship

The UN Millennium Fellowship is a free worldwide leadership development program for undergraduate students, offered virtually from August–November 2022. Benefits include: certificate, network with global leaders, leadership training and community social change. UC Davis is a UN Millennium Fellowship Campus Hub. Priority Deadline: January 31.

UC Davis Washington Program: Summer 2022

The UC Davis Washington Program is now in-person in Washington D.C. for Summer 2022. This program offers professional development and internship opportunities that help inform students' transition from study to professional practice. Students can apply for an internship in any field. There are many global opportunities in D.C.! Deadline: February 7.

Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program

June 20–August 26. Are you looking for a paid internship this summer? The HACU internship program is open to all students. Apply for an internship with one of HACU’s partners. Financial support is available for housing and travel. Virtual and in-person opportunities are available in all fields. Deadline: February 25.

International House Davis: One-on-One English Tutoring: Volunteers Needed

I-House pairs international visitors to members of our community for about an hour of English conversation practice, each week, via Zoom. If you are interested in practicing English or volunteering to help someone learn English, please fill out this form.

Competitions, Challenges, and Funding

David L. Boren Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Funds $8,000–$25,000 for U.S. citizens interested in national security to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Contact UCEAP to learn about eligible University of California study abroad programs. Deadline: February 2.

Donald A. Strauss Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This scholarship funds $15,000 for sophomores and juniors to implement a public service project anywhere in the world. Applicants can be of any citizenship status and must be ranked in the top third of their class. Deadline: February 2.

Udall Undergraduate Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This scholarship funds $7,000 and attendance at Udall Scholars Leadership Conference for sophomores and juniors who are U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents planning careers to benefit the environment or Native American/American Indian tribes. Tribal candidates must be Native American/American Indian. Deadline: February 3.

2022 Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Applications are now open for the 2022 Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship, a fully-funded leadership program for students of color to study abroad and explore strategies for promoting social justice, resolving conflict and advancing peace. The program will be in Ireland this year, co-sponsored by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. Deadline: February 14.

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Full funding for a six-week summer program at Howard University in Washington D.C. This program provides a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers. Deadline: February 15.

Fulbright United Kingdom Summer Institutes

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Fully-funded three-to-four week summer programs centered around specific themes in the U.K. Applicants must be: U.S. citizens, have GPA of 3.7 or greater, have two or more undergraduate years remaining at the conclusion of the program, and have little or no travel experience outside North America. Deadline: February 21.
