You will live in a single room in a furnished apartment shared with other students. Apartments include Wi-Fi, fully-equipped kitchens, linens, desks and in-building laundry.
You should be open to all types of accommodation as housing placements are based on a number of factors such as availability, program length, cost, number of participants and proximity to the internship site.
UC Davis reserves the right to change the accommodation location. Should this be necessary, we will arrange alternative lodging. Please note that elevators, air conditioners and other modern conveniences may not be available in all locations.
A welcome dinner is included in the program cost. All other meals are not included in the program cost and are the responsibility of the participant. You will be able to shop locally for groceries to prepare meals in your apartment, as well as take time to enjoy the cafes and restaurants.
Upon arrival in Barcelona, you will participate in an on-site orientation offered by Connect-123 that eases your transition to your new environment—both inside and outside the workplace—to accelerate readiness to live and work in Spain.
In addition, you have the opportunity to participate in many self-led, as well as organized cultural activities and reflection workshops throughout the program as part of a career readiness course. Possible activities and workshops may include:
- Freixenet Cava Tour, including Tango Show
- Spanish Guitar Concert
- Barcelona Cycling Tour
- Catalan Cooking Class
- Museum visits
- Participation in community service activities
Barcelona is Spain’s second largest city and the cultural, artistic, and historical center of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. Located on the Golden Coast (la costa dorada) of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is a city known for its architecture, history, culture, and Mediterranean atmosphere. Some of the most famous landmarks in Barcelona include the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, as well as the renowned tree-lined boulevard of La Rambla.
Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
