A city street scene in Kigali, Rwanda, featuring modern high-rise buildings with reflective glass facades on both sides. Motorcyclists and a few pedestrians navigate the clean, well-maintained road bordered by manicured hedges and sidewalks. The sky is overcast with gray clouds, adding a dramatic backdrop to the urban landscape. In the distance, more buildings, including a distinctively shaped skyscraper, contribute to the city's skyline.

Global Learning in Rwanda - Eligibility

Connect with Rwanda: Exploring One Health for a More Sustainable World

Access and Eligibility

This program is open to all continuing undergraduate students of any major, including international students. Students must have a passport that allows them to travel internationally. Priority will be given to first-generation college-educated, low-income students who have had limited opportunities to travel outside the U.S. and/or their home country.

For students who feel that study or travel abroad is out of reach due to finances and/or time commitments, this program is designed with you in mind! Due to generous donations, all selected applicants will receive an automatic scholarship that covers the majority of the program fee, including a round-trip group flight. As it is a two-week program, you will be able to return to jobs, internships, or other commitments early in the summer. This is truly a unique opportunity to travel with a UC Davis faculty member in a small cohort to explore important global topics in the beautiful country of Rwanda.

Because all students who are accepted will also receive a scholarship to significantly offset the costs of the program, you will fill out an application that includes personal information and an essay question. Students will be notified of their application status once the application has closed and all applications have been reviewed.

The following criteria will be used to evaluate applications:

  • First generation college-education status
  • SAI and Pell Grant eligible
  • Limited previous travel outside the U.S./home country
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Essay questions
