Bolivia - Pediatric Health Internships
Pediatric Health Summer Abroad Internship provides students interested in healthcare with an immersive experience grounded in cultural exchange, ethical global health, and global citizenship. Based in La Paz, Bolivia, students observe clinical care within local health systems while learning about the social, economic, and cultural factors that shape health outcomes. Participants rotate through pediatric clinics and hospitals, including Bolivia's largest children's hospital, gaining exposure to specialties such as obstetrics, oncology, infectious disease, nephrology, and inpatient pediatrics. Work alongside local physicians, nurses, residents, and medical students serving Indigenous communities in resource-limited settings while exploring approaches to maternal and child health. Spanish language instruction, cultural activities, and homestays with local families deepen your understanding of Bolivian culture and healthcare.
Ghana - Pediatric Care and Reproductive Health Internships
Pediatric Care and Reproductive Health Summer Abroad Internship provides students interested in healthcare with an immersive experience grounded in cultural exchange, ethical global health, and global citizenship. Based in Accra, Ghana, students observe clinical care within local health systems while exploring the social, economic, and cultural factors that influence health outcomes. Participants shadow local medical professionals at Ghana's only public hospital dedicated exclusively to pediatric care, gaining exposure to pediatrics, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, rehabilitative care, and adult medicine. Students may also rotate through specialized clinics and visit nonprofit organizations focused on family planning and sexual and reproductive health. Through these experiences, you'll gain a deeper understanding of healthcare delivery in a resource-limited setting while developing intercultural competence.
Philippines - Remote Island Medicine Internships
Remote Island Medicine Summer Abroad Internship provides students interested in healthcare with an immersive experience grounded in cultural exchange, ethical global health, and global citizenship. Begin the program in Manila, where you'll explore the Philippine healthcare system through seminars, healthcare facility visits, and cultural activities before traveling to a remote island community. There, you'll observe healthcare delivery alongside municipal health officers, nurses, and midwives working in Rural Health Units and Barangay Health Stations. Learn how frontline providers deliver essential care in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas while addressing limited resources and unique public health challenges. Through clinical observations, community-based public health activities, and meaningful cultural immersion, you'll gain firsthand insight into rural healthcare systems and island communities.
South Africa - Hospital Medicine and Health Disparities Internships
Hospital Medicine and Health Disparities Summer Abroad Internship provides students interested in healthcare with an immersive experience grounded in cultural exchange, ethical global health, and global citizenship. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, students observe clinical care within public hospitals while exploring the historical, social, and economic factors that shape health outcomes. Participants may rotate through internal medicine, pediatrics, or pediatric trauma care alongside local healthcare professionals, gaining insight into healthcare delivery in a diverse and evolving system. Through observational clinical experiences, students examine the social determinants of health, healthcare disparities, and innovative approaches to addressing public health challenges, including HIV/AIDS prevention and care. This program offers a deeper understanding of culturally responsive healthcare while developing intercultural competence and global health perspectives.
