Hospital Medicine and Health Disparities Summer Abroad Internship provides students interested in healthcare with an immersive experience grounded in cultural exchange, ethical global health, and global citizenship. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, students observe clinical care within public hospitals while exploring the historical, social, and economic factors that shape health outcomes. Participants may rotate through internal medicine, pediatrics, or pediatric trauma care alongside local healthcare professionals, gaining insight into healthcare delivery in a diverse and evolving system. Through observational clinical experiences, students examine the social determinants of health, healthcare disparities, and innovative approaches to addressing public health challenges, including HIV/AIDS prevention and care. This program offers a deeper understanding of culturally responsive healthcare while developing intercultural competence and global health perspectives. The program is provided by Child Family Health International (CFHI).
